Apex Legends recently surpassed 100 million players worldwide, and the success story is about to get a new chapter, this time in the form of a mobile port. Apex Legends Mobile, like other extremely popular battle royales (for example, Fortnite and PUBG), will bring the console version’s fast-paced combat and fluid movement mechanics to the small screen.
Chad Grenier, creative director of Apex Legends, announced the news today in a post on the Apex Legends Blog.“Beginning later this month, we’re kicking off the first regional beta tests for Apex Legends Mobile. This is a huge moment for our team. Two years ago we changed the landscape of the battle royale genre, and now we’re aiming to do it again on mobile.”
The port was created with touchscreens in mind, and it makes use of simpler controls so that players can get right into the action as soon as possible. Grenier stated that Apex Legends Mobile regional beta testing will begin with a few thousand Android players in India and the Philippines. Respawn intends to launch the game in additional regions throughout the year.
Apex Legends Mobile, like its console counterparts, will be free-to-play, with its own battle pass, collectible cosmetics, and unique unlockables. Cross-play, on the other hand, will not be enabled because it was designed specifically for mobile devices.“It’s a new version of Apex Legends,” Grenier said. “But it’s true to the original…We can’t wait to show you what’s next. See you soon, Legends.”
Apex Legends Season 9 may be the most ambitious yet. Respawn has recently promised a slew of Titanfall content, so keep an eye out for that!
