Konami announced this Wednesday, July 21 that its next football game scheduled for this fall will be called eFootball. A new name for this series baptizes Winning Eleven in Japan, known to us first as International Superstar Soccer Pro then Pro Evolution Soccer, or PES, which had moved to eFootball PES.
As announced a few months ago, this round ball simulation will run under Unreal Engine. But contrary to what one imagined, it is not only for the new generation of consoles that this transfer has been made. In fact, eFootball will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X | S and PC as well as on PS4 and Xbox One … not to mention the iOS and Android versions which will be released soon after.. What about the Switch? Nothing on the horizon.
The new era is also openness. As the rumors suggested, eFootball will be free-to-play and available for download only. Who says free says reduced content. But it will grow over time, as indicated in the roadmap shared by the Japanese publisher (see our gallery below).
At the launch, local matches will be offered with FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus Turin, Manchester United, Arsenal, the Corinthians, River Plate, Sao Paulo and Flamengo, and it will be possible to perform cross-generation matches. .
Later in the fall, the following will be deployed:
- Cross-platform matchmaking between consoles and PC (e.g. PlayStation5 vs. Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation5 vs. PC Steam …)
- A team building mode (name confirm) which allows you to build your own team by acquiring players
- An online Leagues mode (name confirm) to have your team play in a competitive global league
- A Match Pass system to earn items and players while playing eFootball
And when winter comes, we can count on the compatibility of controllers for mobiles, with full cross-platform matchmaking, while professional eSports tournaments will be launched.
