For those who are not familiar with the Metro saga, Exodus is the third opus on sale since September 15, 2019. Developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver, this FPS in a post-apocalyptic universe offers a polish for its optimized release on Xbox Series X | S and PS5. It was during a presentation organized for the press, to which we were invited, that we were able to discover more about the improvements made and the work carried out by the studio team.
We thus learn that the redesign of the game will relate exclusively to the technical field and not to the scenario. While the storyline content does not change, the graphics and loading times, meanwhile, are the lifeblood of the project. While on Xbox Series S, the title will run at 1080p / 60fps, the Xbox Series X version will run at 4K / 60fps. Surrounded by members of the Deep Silver team such as Benjamin Archard (Programmer) or Jon Bloch (Executive Producer), we are guided through the specifics of ray tracing which will be the basis for improving this new version. In the images below, we can see the undeniable progress made on natural lights such as windows or candles for example. Ray tracing therefore offers, at the same time, cleaner colors and a more realistic effect. It is also said that this version will allow to change the FOV according to the tastes of each (e). Let us also add that the sound will also benefit from a small facelift by taking advantage of Dolby Atmos on Xbox.
Always a little more in the heat of the moment
Regarding loading times, the Xbox Series X | S version will offer loads of less than 1 minute or even almost instantaneous. This is a big plus when you know that this point was precisely a notable defect on the previous version. We also note that some player travel concerns have been resolved by the team. It’s clear that Deep Silver has listened to the community and made the Xbox Series X | S version as enjoyable as possible.
It is also important to specify that the same day will be released in physical version Metro Exodus Complete Edition, grouping the base game as well as the 2 expansions. Although no additional DLC is planned, we are delighted to see such improvements and look forward to seeing what this new version has in the belly.
Metro Exodus for Xbox Series X | S is available June 18, 2021.
